Riding on the fringe...Hiking and Riding Horse Back

The destination is the same, the path of arrival is it's own journey.
I wasn't happy about taking time off from work. After a long and very rewarding Hike to Potato Chip Rock on the Mt. Wooodson Trail. in San Diego County I began to unwind. I was in the elements. I was staring at big blue skys with mountains and valleys around in every direction. It would be a good trip after all. I didn't grow taking vacations as a normal thing. We did go on trips. Lake Havasu as kid. Hiking trips in the woods. Playing in the river, sliding and jumping off rocks in the streams was best thing I could of ever think of. I visited Kern when I was. Traveled to Puerto Vallarta Mexico.  Vacation has been through my eyes, more of a status thing. I like to think going on vacation, and going on a trip are two different things. I don't want to lay out, I'll do it once in a great rare while. I like the active side of being away from home and traveling. I was lucky enough to ride horses on my last trip. He rode in the Hills on Ramona California located inland in San Diego County. This area is said to have the most recorded number of bird species seen in North America, it's a world record to be exact. This area is know for wines, cattle big open space nature reserves, hell we even got see some camels. It's a partial desert slightly elevated with mixtures of wooded areas lined by hills with massive builder that make the landscape seems alien at time. Here is a link to some video of the Hike on the way bay from Mt Woodson. Hiking in Potato Chips Shadows I almost ran out of water. Even though it was late spring, there were times when the cluds broke and sun let you know, it reminded you, "hey, this is a desert." That kind of enviromental factor can really make you appreciate a place like this, or it will make you want to stay away. I live about 130 away from this hike. It was completely worth the drive. If you drive for about 30 more miles inland and higher in elevation. You will enter the once bustling historical mining town of Julian. Once known for it's and its gold boom in the 1800's, Julian is now more know for it's cider, both Non and Alcoholic versions. Both at great. Personally I like the hard stuff. Alcohol makes any trip/vacation more enjoyable. As well as having the company of a beautiful woman. A bed room villa in the hills kind of grows on you. The stars in the sky shine. The animals are more apart of the day to day scope of interactions. Which really means you have to stay safe while having fun on vacation. We ran into a few snakes, a baby rattle snake the first. Lots of bugs, and traces of animals dropping. I'm look forward to returning to this place soon.
